You can only connect to ResNet from a room in one of the connected residence halls.
Most new computers come with a 10/100 Ethernet card installed. Check the documentation for your computer, or simply look on the back. Network card ports look like large phone jacks. If you do not have one, you should purchase one from a office supply or computer store. Many computer stores can also install the card for you.
The ResNet network outlet is slightly larger than the phone outlet, and it is almost always orange. There should be two outlets in each double-occupancy room. (Apartments in Rose Towers have one outlet in each bedroom and one or two in the study.)
You can purchase an Ethernet patch cord at almost any office supply or computer store. For most rooms, a 10 to 15 foot cable should be sufficient.
You may be able to simply plug your computer into the ResNet outlet and be online. Further configuration instructions (PDF file) are also available.
